5'1" x 23" x 3" Bob Simmons Inspired Stub-Platter-Hull for CTO in Santa Maria...
For those who know what this is, it doesn't need much explaining; but for those who don't...Bob Simmons was a shaper/builder/innovator in the 40's-early 50's (he passed away while surfing what is now called Simmon's Reef in SD). He was known for being incredibly outside the box, making boards like this normally in the 10' range; but there are a few small ones he made and stories of many other shaped that have been brought back by Richard Kenvin and friends whilst making the movie Hydrodynamica over the past few years.
anyways...they are really complex little things, mixes of a heavy s-deck, hull bottom, slight concaves and boxy rails...curves all around. These boards were WAY ahead of their time (late 1940's!!!!); one can only wonder what surfing would be like today had Simmons stayed around a while longer.
