CA and Monterey look promising. Weather is too good. Might have to ride the long board tomorrow in spite of myself!

I can't wait. The hard part is going to be figuring out where to go. The new moon has brought some crazy tide swings...

The prospects for the coming week look pretty good.

In my time, wave forecasting consisted of the exotic science of dialing the LA County lifeguard recording or just going to the beach and looking at it. Usually the latter. Then there was the KMET surf report.

Another thing that's changed is they way people estimate wave height, for us, when we said 3rd point was 4', that meant about a 7-8' face. We thought we were measuring wave backs not faces. If a Hawaiian saw a wave with a 8' face he'd say it was about 2'!They definetly had a different standard.

Now people really seem to go by wave face.

I've never been able understand the science, the way they do it now. What does a swell height of 7' as shown on this chart translate to? I looked at the tutorial on one of the websites, forget it, too much stuff.

Also, they always list time in zulu time which I think is greenich meridian time. what's the best way to convert?
