p.s.: I was going to try to throw in some subtle Hello Kitty comment, but I figure you having those action figures is bad enough. Seriously, man. Those are for little girls. Look -- I'm not sayin'; I'm just sayin'. You know?

When I first opened up this pic, something about the fin setup reminded me of shark's teeth...
If this catches on, you've got the name for marketing purposes...

ryan, sweet pin line detail..no stopping your creative juices flowing over, uh...local before global; when someone in our neighborhood finds you they should come to appreciate the surfer shaper relationship...may your clientèle continue to grow, just want to run my ol'hands along your sculptures...p.s. the foiling on those bonzer fins is real craftsmanship...old school s.b. george greenough showed us that foiling and flex in those transparent, raked fins of the mi to late 60's was an important part of the ride...how does that translate to fish stories revisited, today?

i have a soft spot for flex in my heart...I like everything flexy; boards, fins, skateboards...wetsuits...?
everything :)
it just depends on the amount of flex and where you dial it into, its got to be tapered or it wont do its job that effectively...nobody likes kinks in their rocker!
anyways, I love foiling fins and was SUPER stoked to find some 1/8" thick 5-ply locally for a good price, so i snagged a sheet and went to town...Im stoked that they look so much like mini-keels.
ive made balsa fins, paulownia fins, glass fins, plywood fins, theyve all got their advantages or disadvantages, but they all belong somewhere.
Last year around this time I was cutting the bases away from the side fins and foiling them thinner so theyd flex about 3/4" each way by hand...the result was a super fun slingshot out of long turns, but it was a little too delayed; so i started making them stiffer...much better :)
theres a place for super flex (hulls) and theres a place for stiff flex (hp shortboards)...in the middle is a whole realm of stuff that not too many people go into, thats where it gets fun!
The flex in these little fins is pretty cool, theyre glassed with two layers of 4oz on each side of the fin before they get glassed on, then I glass them to the board with a layer of 6oz and a layer of 4 oz on each side...so youve got 8 layers of glass on them in the end which gives a pretty good snap when its all cured.
sorry for going on so long...id talk about pinlining too but you migh fall asleep and its only 1 ion the afternoon........
ps-the board is done as of today, final pics will be up asap.

im shopping for a new board right now...ive got a sector 9 carbon tri-lam which kills for carving and cruising but im looking for something smaller to get a little more surf-realistic with...seems like every time i make a leap in my surfing ability, its because ive been skating heavily shortly before-hand....sooooo im gonna take a hint :)
