Man, I got served today. Talk about a real wake up call. Unfortunately it looks like i'll be out of the water, off of my bicycle, out of the skatepark, and sitting on the couch for the next months.
A frontside disaster on the bigger quarterpipe at the downtown skatepark turned into a real disaster for me earlier today... Tried to roll away and crumpled on the flat bottom; full transfer from air to cement right onto my knee. Preliminary reports look like a patella split into three. Most painful part was driving home since my homie can't drive stick shift... Then again the radiologist didn't really have much sympathy while shooting films and positioning me on the table. The doc's at UCSB student health didn't look too optimistic, thinking a visit to a specialist in SD next week might be a good move. Any advice?

Look up Dr. Richard Ryu in Santa Barbara. He is great. He did an ACL reconstruction on me about 15 years ago. I tore it playing volleyball.
Buena suerte,

Puta madre, hombre.

Get a 2nd opinion. Try Allen Moelleken at the Spine Center. Don't let any hack cut on you until you've had a second opinion. You've only got one knee. Okay, actually two, but stll, don't let those butchers near you unless you're sure it's the best option.

Yeah I agree Ryu is the man, he does a lot of knees and has fixed my patellal femoral pain. Regardless of who you visit, physical therapy after the surgery is what will get you back to normal. Be very very persistent, and work extremly hard and though the pain might be unbearable during the exercises, give it your best and then another 10% on top of that. Otherwise your injury will either not completely heal to it's fullest or come back to haunt you. Good luck and sorry to hear you slammed so hard. be thankful it wasn't your head :-)
+1 on Ryu. A few years ago my shoulder was f-ed up, and he got it straightened out...

Take the pain like a man and have a couple of shots.
