Interesting where he ended up. In '73 I met this girl on Kauai who witnessed a fatal attack on a surfer at Punta Mita. I spent my 50th at the Four Seasons there and the story was that the fishermen had killed all the big sharks. Maybe not!

That's just it. Punta Mita was long known as a sharky area. Now one of the most expensive resorts in the world is there, they promote water sports, and there are no shark cages. I do believe it is true that the sharks population was for the most part wiped out. Those Mexican fisherman are pretty good at it.
