It's been a while since I contributed much substance to this forum and thought its time I payed some dues!

I started a new project today with a friend of mine who has been building jensen style wood boards for a little bit now (hes on here as Ozwolfe)...we like those but thought it was time for a few chambered boards...the first is for me (7'6 x 23 x 2 3/8 bladed out hull), the second will be a 7'2 egg for him.
The wood finally arrived (enough for a few boards so far) and we got crackin' today:

Our planks are only 6' so joining is necessary:

As they stand now...glued and ready to have the rocker cut in:

yah this is all kinda prep stuff but its fascinating to be doing it and learning...i used to be way into wood working so its really cool to be working with it again.

the chambering (cutting all the holes to lighten it) is going to be the fun part!

How Much Do You Think They Will Weigh?

Looks Like Oak Wood.

the wood is paulownia, same stuff Wegener is using in aus.
its extremely renewable and weighs just a tiny bit more than balsa, and is much much harder...very cool stuff :)

the woodgrain and a filled hole...they come out looking pretty clean:

15 lbs of woodchips later and its looking pretty foiled!

im guessing it weighs around 40 lbs at this point, should be chambering tomorrow and ill get a good sense of its final weight!

Amazing work, Ryan! No matter what, it will be an amazing piece of art. I'm betting, however, that it will be one hell of a torpedo (40 pounds!).

This part killed me.

I couldn't bring myself to do the breaking, so i manned the camera once more:

chambered rails (not finished in this photo):

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/5871/img0211ql6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Mid chambering the mid section, we left a bit of room for more shaping:

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/7114/img0214if2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

and back together in once piece:

the holes were all filled up today, tomorrow is final shaping day, WOOHOOOOOO!

its amazing how much the color changes when you get resin on it...this thing is going to be nutty:
