we saw the start of it around 6 on our way to OSH. I knew it wasn't just a cloud. On our way home it was moving down the hill pretty good. I stopped at the bottom of Glen Annie around 7 and the fire trucks were lining up and the guys were spreading out maps. Definitely the closest fire has come to my house.

Looks somewhat under control this morning at 8. No planes dropping at that time. Let's hope the winds stay down to get it controlled.

Glad to provide some more visual info. From the nighttime news and their vantage point it was hard to tell. They were supposed to have planes flying at 7am and 8-8:30 I didn't see a drop so they must have done some good early on.

I just watched for a bit from La Patera and Cathedral Oaks. They were doing some fire retardant drops while I was there around 11/11:30am. Let's hope the wind doesn't pick up any more.

+1
Not a great image (shot from Old SM), but here's one of those drops you saw.

Just drove 101 to Patterson. You can see flames rising of the crests of the hills it's really gnarly. Say a prayer or 3 or 5.

Agreed. Not to freak you out, Ryan, but it's looking pretty big right now. Smoke is covering my house.

Wow...so much to say about this.
I went to go see a movie at Camino Real at 7:10. Rolling movie, we see a few previews then....WHOOOOSH...all of a sudden power goes out. It freaked me out, then 15 seconds later some nervous girl says, "I need everyone to exit the theatre please".
... This fire is really putting a damper on things :\. Oh + electricity was out for a while, but for some reason Del Playa in IV had lighting? Weird...
We def. need backup, this fire is getting CLOOOOOSE. Lets pray the wind works for the fire fighters. And obvi. prays FOR the fire fighters, hoping they are safe. Too many fires this year I'm tellin ya...so close to home also.

can anyone say if flights are coming into the airport?
I dont see anything on their website and cant find any updates...?
Last night was intense. I drove up Old San Marcos in early eve and things looked pretty tame. Within a few hours of down-canyon wind blowing on it, the flames raged from above DPHS to the West, and between Fairview Ave & Patterson to the East. We drove up Fairview and were able to get within a mile of the flames. Earlier today things seemed relatively tame, but the smoke is getting bad again...

I live in the flight path and planes have been flying. There goes one now. . .
I think we're going to have more of the same tonight. I'm just planning on the power outage. We've got our batteries and gas in the generator.
Careful on the roads. People out looking/driving around in the dark might be the biggest danger.

a huge thank you to everyone who's working/worked on the GAP fire. Especially those from out of town who have been working for weeks on other fires. We really appreciate you!
