What are the recycled leashes made from anyway?

I remember my first leash; it was just bungee cord with a nylon leg stap that attached to the board by string threaded through a hole drilled through the fin. Those were before anyone ever thought up rail savers.. It used to be fun to try to pull it back out of the glass and foam..
