Why is that?

Why is that?

In the crash of '29, there were maybe a handful of surfers on both coasts of the USA. Nowadays, the numbers are probably in the millions. With massive unemployment, what better way to spend your day than hanging out in the lineup waiting for the next set?

Of course I am being facetious, but just imagine how it might impact your surfing if history repeats itself...?

I'll still be at the same level of broke.
Shit ain't gonna change for me.
But I'd like to move into an Airstream or something to save $1100 a month instead of paying rent.
Anybody have a place I can park for cheap/mellowness.
I'm not a derilect.

I own nothing and owe even less.

Boards. Wetties. '71 VW Surf Bus and my State Parks Annual Pass.

Anarchy works for me.

Bring it on.

Anyone else besides me concerned with what's going on with the economy today?

Largest single-day stock market decline ever.

I just figure that I will never be able to retire. We will be working our fingers to the bone until the day we die.

What do you mean by "concerned"?
Of course we're all concerned.
But I'm not jumping out the window just yet.
I do what I can which is continue to work.
I make basically the same amount no matter what goes down.
I owe nothing and live low.
Like I said before, until I'm unemployed, not much changing for me.
I'd rather move somewhere tropical and ride out The Great Depression #2.
I'm working on that.
I wish I had bought some gold.

What do you mean by "concerned"?

What I really meant was I was just wondering if anyone wanted to talk about it? Watching a lifetime of retirement savings (401k) take a dive like it did today was hard to bear... Anybody else feeling "vulnerable"?

I didn't have any stock nor am I close to retiring, so what is happening hasn't scared me, but I do fear the future of my kids. I am against the bailout. If the money was going to the people instead of the businesses, I think the economy would be much better off. People would be able to pay off their debt, pay off their home mortgages and people wouldn't lose their homes and businesses would have their money.

I've been absolutely crushed lately, as I was in 2001. It will all come back....eventually. Remember, it's not a loss until you sell. In the meantime, it is indeed is painful to watch. I try to look at the bigger picture, our american capitalist ways will eventually return when this blows over, along with our 401k's, it's just a matter of when. For now, I continue to dollar cost average and take advantage of the cheap prices.

Im hoping the fact that surfboards tend to be so expensive these days that will help keep people out of the water... and HOPEFULLY, people that dont really surf a lot will see their expensive boards as a way of making some quick cash and ditch them. :D

Glass is half full for this currently unemployed beach guy.. hahah
