Hoverboarding
I was just thinking, If you took the trucks off a skateboard, and put magnet sheets on the bottom of it and on top of a skatepark, wouldn't that create the next step in the evolution of skateboard design? You could further bridge the gap between surfing and skating by the way pushing down on the board & ground creates a water-like "squishiness" to your turns. All you would need would be a board design that creates a little bit of opposite polarity on the tail end of the board to create a fin-like effect so the board wouldn't spin out of control during turns, and presto, you would be re-creating scenes straight out of Back to the Future part 2. I've got the feeling that Donovan Frankenreiter's "UFO" surfboard design would do the trick just fine, but the ammount of research into the long term effects of over-exposure to too much magnetism might be too great for any aspiring entrepreneur to make a move towards patenting this. Then there would also be the risk of getting sued by someone who might get raped at this magnetic skatepark by having a large metal object placed on top of them which might deter people from trying to patent this idea, but still, think of all the cool things that could come as a result: Magnetic helmets to prevent kids from hitting their heads too hard on the ground, new technologies in automotive energy and roadways (green parties rejoice), even new and more efficient ways in achieving flight in airplanes. I do believe there are trains which use this technology allready, so i'm wondering, how long will it take for someone to step up and start creating this new form of transportation. I feel I could have started it, but like I said, I don't want to be held liable for people coming down with brain tumors or becoming raped at my creation, so I thought it would be best to just put the idea out there and see where it goes. Hopefully it'll turn out like I said, and there will be a new revolution in transportation in the near future, but even if it doesn't, it wouldn't hurt to see someone put my idea into action and experiment around with it. So yeah, hoverboarding, there you go.
