The Time to Take Action is Now!!

The Santa Barbara County Parks Department will be making the first of several informational presentations about beach parking feasibility. Ocean Beach Park, Guadalupe Dunes Park, Goleta Beach Park, Arroyo Burro Beach Park, Lookout Park and Rincon Beach Park are the Beaches involved in this presentation.  Nick Tonkin of the Daily Sound writes, “... a plan under consideration by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, could wreck the ease and comfort of going to the beach.”

In a nutshell, the County of Santa Barbara seeks to collect $3.00 (minimum) for vehicles to park at the beaches.  The State Government is broke, the County Government is broke, and now they are going to stick it to the kids, the surfers, the families—virtually anyone and everyone who loves our beaches…  There are also grumbling rumors that roadside parking and hence free access to places like Refugio and all along the local coast will be eliminated, so please get active and have your voice heard!  The Park Commission meeting is tomorrow, June 23rd at 9:30AM at the Board of Supervisors Conference Room in downtown Santa Barbara (105 E. Anapamu Street, 4th Floor).

I’m assuming they will be selling annual stickers, for some kind of a deal? So>Simon, youll only have to pay 50-100 per year!! In the future, they will probably have a security door at the bottom of the trail at Rincon, and only limit the surf to the first 200 lucky souls that are willing to pay 100 bucks per session?!

First they came for the Parking, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not drive.

Then they charged for beach access, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not frequent that beach.

Then they charged per hour rates for water access, and I did not speak out—
Because I only liked to tan.

Then they charged for a spot to set my towel down—
and there was no one left to speak for me.
