The public is invited to “Surf Art Show,” a benefit for Citizens CAP’s “No on Measure J” campaign, scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, at 855 at the Arts Center, 855 Linden Ave. in downtown Carpinteria.  Admission is $5 and includes one drink ticket.  The “Surf Art Show” will feature the works of Rick Sharp, Ron Anderson, Ben Anderson, Sean Anderson, Carrie Reynolds, Arturo Tello, Matt Moore, Ryan Moore, and Aubrey Falk. Dylan Schmidt and the Rhythm Souls will provide the music. Headlining the show will be world-renowned surfer Shaun Tomson signing posters of “Shaun and the Rincon Dolphins,” new artwork by Rick Sharp.  To be voted on in the June 8 primary, Measure J, if passed, would allow a 140-foot drill rig to dominate the Carpinteria coastline; create risks of blowouts, oil spills, and toxic vapors; generate excessive noise, air and light pollution, and odor; prohibit local regulatory oversight, and endanger beaches, the Bluffs Nature Preserve, and Seal Rookery.

Citizens Against Paredon Initiative is a grassroots group of community volunteers deeply concerned about the future of our small town. Made up of Carpinterians from every walk of life and every political persuasion, we have come together because Carpinteria is facing a threat that could change not only the physical face but also the social fabric of our community. That threat is the Paredon Oil & Gas Development Initiative. Citizens Committee Against Paredon Initiative, P.O. Box 895, Carpinteria, CA 93014
