Goofyfoots & Groms

Last Friday’s swell might have been a little of a let down.  Photographically, maybe I just got my expectations too high all week, with the stories and rumors of a mega swell? I really thought we were going to see XXL swells, big green walls and wide open tubes, with the worlds best surfers showing off all their best moves. What I did see was some of the worlds best surfers enjoying what they had! The crew this session, was lead by Damien Hobgood, who showed us why he is on the big tour. The guy just plain rips. Also tearing up the beautiful long walls of the Rincon were Kilian Garland, Luke Davis, Rick Gannon, Lauran Yater, and a host of many more surfers.

One of the most enjoyable parts of this day was watching and making photographs of the up and coming crew of groms. I saw young ones that were barely able to walk, suited up and being trained by their parents. Then there were the serious ones, probably just barley in their teens, who were just ripping up every wave they caught, stopping in every few waves to get food or water from one of the many “Grom Moms.” Some of these young shredders literally surfed all day. That was cool and brought much joy to my heart…

I hope you enjoy this slide show, choreographed, as always to some enjoyable music by Jon Shafer.

Stay stoked, stay wet and stay tuned!

I HAD A MAJOR SET BACK TODAY The waves were sick today at rincon. I was so excited to surf when I saw how good it was. I had a 7’10 Yater I thought was safe to stash around the upper parking lot area. So I go to my spot and my board is missing had it since I first started surfing in 95. Thought I would share this info maybe someone will spread the word and keep a look out for me. It a reynolds Yater 7’10 Hydro Foam, black pin strip going down both rails. The board is yellow and is clyde beatty glassed. TRI FIN THICK TOO. It aslo has a 6 inch cicrcle white in color from a previous repair towards the nose on the bottom of the board. Please feel free to contact me if you see or hear about it very suspicious IMO because nobody would think about stealing another persons board. I’m homeless and cant afford to replece it. It perfect for 8-10+ range surf, but unforuntaley now I will never ride it in those epic conditions and was a bummed out and depressed all day and probalbly for a while. call 805 563 2000 ask for nick I appreciate any help in finding my board please leave a message # if anything is found.
