Naval Base Ventura County Opens to Public for 4th Annual Surf Contest

August 20-21, 2011 NBVC will host the 2011 NBVC Point Mugu Surf Contest Presented by Quiksilver. This is an exciting opportunity for the surfing community to access one of the best waves Southern California has to offer, and for NBVC to showcase our award winning stewardship of the environmentally sensitive beach and wetlands area inside our gates.

This is a community engagement event for NBVC. Proceeds from this event will benefit the MWR Single Sailor/Liberty program - a recreation program for Active Duty personnel stationed at NBVC. Personnel in the Single Sailor/Liberty program range in age from 18-25. The MWR Single Sailor/Liberty program helps these young men and women make social connections in an alcohol-free environment and generate fond memories of their experience while enlisted in the armed forces. Entry fees are $20 for Active Duty Military and $100 for Civilians. There are 5 competitive divisions: Military Men, Military Women/Open Women, Young Guns, Bodyboard, Open, and a special Quiksilver Expression Session featuring professional riders.

Online registration will officially close on Monday, August 08, 2011 @ 11:59 PM sharp, so sign up as soon as possible to ensure entry.  Register online here: http://www.active.com/register/index.cfm?CHECKSSO=0&EVENT_ID=1967364

Thanks Charlie.  Yes, first shot was water shot with the old trusty 20D just this past April. Hope I get more opportunities to shoot after my next surgery…
