Local Surfers Score Following Torrential Rainfall

Historically speaking, La Niña weather events are not supposed to be like this.  Well, as evidenced by what has unfolded with the “Pineapple Express” since last Thursday, all bets are off as local rain gauges are spilling over with up to 10 inches measured in places, and another 5-7 expected in the next few days.  No doubt the runoff has created a cornucopia of disease-producing bugs in local waters.  That wasn’t enough to stop a handful of hearty pros including fresh-off-the-ASP-tour Bobby Martinez.  He was joined at Rincon on Monday by a handful of other local pros like Andrew Bennett, Kilian Garland, Tarik Khashoggi, and Aussie Yadin Nichol for a super session in the muddy surf.

It’s all fun until you end up with spinal meningitis, MRSA sinus infection, hepatitis, etc… one fun day in poo water is not worth missing several days or weeks of surf and possibly ending up in the hospital…I know people this has happened to.
