Santa Barbara Surf Club Members Show Support for U.S. Army Soldiers

High-Bandwidth Multimedia Feature: Please Allow Ample Time for Download

The war in Iraq has been raging for years now as wave after wave of U.S. Army troops have served time in support of the War on Terror and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The death toll continues to rise as our military forces have begun to shift their focus onto Afghanistan and the battle with the Taliban.  As the years have past, many soldiers have gone back overseas repeatedly, while others have struggled with the transition to civilian life following their tours of duty.  Often this transition process has been overwhelming, as battle-scarred soldiers have attempted to return to and restore their former lives.  Sadly, a lack of acknowledgement for their dedicated service has been evident, and today, members of our local surfing community took steps to show our troops how much their commitment to the safety and security of our country is appreciated here in Santa Barbara.  Members of the Santa Barbara Surf Club met a group of U.S. Army soldiers at Leadbetter Beach this morning, and gave them a thorough introduction to the magic of stoke.  Check out the slideshow below to view images from this heartwarming experience.  Special thanks to Deb Trauntvein, President SBSC, Command Sergeant Major Retired Jonathan Church who helped coordinate the event, and to all those who donated their time to those who have served our country.
