Volcom Butterfish Series Stop #3 — March 7th @ C-Street in Ventura
Ventura’s Butterfish series hosted by Volcom has proved to be one of the most competitive areas on the entire VQS tour. The talent pool is stacked waist deep in Cobblestone’s come daylight as the surfers wait to enter on a first come first serve basis. Entry’s are free but you couldn’t tell as surfers prepare for war almost as if they bet their entire bank roll on themselves to win. Why the ferocious approach you ask? Well the answer is quite simple. If you are one of the top 5 ranked surfers after all 3 events, you gain entry to Volcom’s VQS Championships held annually each summer in Newport Beach, California.
Surfers compete to qualify all over the globe with series events not only up and down the California coast but also in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the East Coast. Making the finals at the Championships means big cash payouts and prize packs that would even make Santa’s bag of Christmas goodies look like doo doo on a hot summers day. What also makes these events so unique is that there are divisions for the pro’s as well as little guys, jr’s and high school ages along with a girls division as well, all of which are also free. There is food on the house, games are played, with prizes won and everyone has a good time.
Back to Bobby’s big win….. Having already placed 2nd and 4th in the last 2 Butterfish Finals at Mandalay and Pipes, Bobby easily won the Series overall and secured himself an entry into the Championships. Bobby also won a Volcom Goldfish Series in our sister land’s to the north up in Cayucos proving that he is a force to be reckoned with any time he pulls on a jersey. Big shout out to S.B.‘s Killian Garland who finished a close second.
