Perfect A-Frames Graced Pelican Point Saturday Morning
Third Annual Mugu Contest Arguably Best Yet!
Building on the success of the previous two years’ events, the United States Navy executed this operation to perfection, as contestants and fans alike report an overdose of stoke following the conclusion of PMSC-3. With the talent pool richer than ever before—including Dane Reynolds and big-wave hellman Peter Mel, and a host of other local stars like Adam Virs and Sean (“Purple”) Hayes, the level of surfing on display was clearly and undeniably higher than past events. The surf Gods must have been listening as a solid Southern-Hemi swell charged in after a month of flat calm. Fog was a problem for the judges early in the morning, but bright and sunny skies combined with offshore breezes in the 15 mph range to make for some classic Point Mugu A-Frames…
When the dust settled and after 2 days of grueling competition, top dog of the event was none other than J7’s Keoni Cuccua in Open Men’s division. Matched by the victory of J7’s Demi Boelsterli in the Open Women’s division, marking the second year in a row that J7 has dominated the winner’s podium. Congratulations to all of the winners as posted below, and special thanks to all of the men and women involved in staging the contest from the United States Navy, as well as Presenting Sponsor Quicksilver and the rest of the sponsoring vendors.
