New Long Period SSW Groundswell Gradually Building
Report provided by Surfline
Forecast Recap:
Sunday was a down day for waves as an old NW/SW swell blend set up mainly 1-2-3’ surf for the region. Top southern hemi breaks (mainly through OC and SD) picked up occasional waist high+ sets but the surf was pretty weak overall. Calm to light onshore winds early had most spots in clean to lightly textured conditions but onshore flow and surface bump has picked up to moderate levels for most areas this afternoon. We are seeing some small, long period forerunners from the SSW show up on the buoys this afternoon, so our nice southern hemi swell for next week is right on track.
Forecast Outlook:
MONDAY - New, longer-period SSW groundswell gradually builds through the day, but is mainly blocked from the region by islands. Many locations are flat with a few select exposures seeing inconsistent 1-2’ sets.
WEATHER/WIND: Calm to light NW winds through the morning, lightest early. Westerly flow builds in the afternoon to around 6-12 knots.
Best Bet: Road trip North or South to a SSW swell exposure. Morning when winds are lightest.
Worst Bet: Staying in SB and expecting anything more than knee-high surf. Afternoon has the strongest onshore flow…
