Local Athletes Perform Well at Oceanside Harbor
April 21-23, Oceanside Harbor
The Scholastic Surf Series a Division of the WSA completed Section A and Section B, high school surfing at Oceanside Harbor. The High School State Championships took place over 3 days of competition with participation from over 24 high schools from San Diego to Santa Barbara. What a great way to finish up the high school series with good surf and glassy conditions throughout most of the event. Surf ranged from 2 to 4 feet on Saturday & 2 to 3 feet on Sunday and Monday with great waves. Outstanding performances from San Clemente High School taking 4 out of the 5 divisions and winning the best overall team for Section A high schools (coastal). Aliso Niguel took the overall honors in Section B schools (inland). The most exciting division took place in the Section A Mens Shortboard with San Clemente edging out Carlsbad by one point. In Section B the upset was in Mens Shortboard with Bishops over Aliso Niguel the number one seed. The grand finale of the SSS season will take place with the Middle School State Surfing Championships on May 19 & 20, 2012 at Oceanside Harbor.
