So many! I guess when I lived at Sunset pt in the early 70’s and my black cat “Eli Eli” ( that’s black in Hawaiian.) would walk out on the soft sand and watch me paddle out at the point. I often and usually I was, the first one out for at least an hour before guys like Kanaiaupuni, Jeff Hakman, Bernie Baker, Buttons Kaluhiokalani, Mark Lydell, Michael Ho and the rest would finally come out to join me….

Let’s see… Every that time I’m in the water I always seem to have the best time— even if it sucks. But, I’d say one winter in town me and the Curren boys woke up every morning at like 6:00 am, and went down to Sandbar to surf a while, and then came to the jacuzzi and went back down and surfed ‘til dark. We did that for about 2 weeks straight. It was so much fun!

A trip I took to Fiji in 2005. I’ll never forget the first, late afternoon paddle out in ledgey, heavy waves with an heavy rain storm coming down. Jumping off the boat into Fijian waters and paddling hard to keep your position while getting pelted with rain. It was unreal! Then the next morning I had one of the best sessions of my life, surfing one of the nicest lefts of my life. I’ll never forget the experience.

Every session is memorable. But there was one Volcom contest at Mandalay just this year that I lost out early in. I went down the beach and surfed perfect head-high barrels with Adam Lambert and Robert Curtis, and it stayed off shore all day long.
