| Best Surfing Memory: | Back in the mid-80’s my brother Brad and I shared a skiff with Tony DiLoreto which took us up to Hollister Ranch many times. Those were the best memories. Perfection and virtual solitude all at once… Beyond that, night surfing at Rincon when it’s pumping has also been quite unforgettable (to say the least)... |

| Favorite spots | Rincon |
| Favorite local eats | The Palace Café, Holdren's, Kahuna Grill |
| Favorite local surf shop | There are actually several favorites, depending on what kind of mood I'm in. They each offer something special and unique. |
| What's on your ipod | I love Classic Rock. Led Zep, B.Ö.C., et al plus late '70s/early '80s Punk/New Wave ~ U2, Oingo Boingo, Wall of Voodoo |
| Favorite movies | I like a wide variety of Big Screen films. As far as surf films go: Big Wednesday, 5 Summer Stories, Super Session, Free Ride |
| More about Jon Shafer | Over the past decade, chronic lower backpain has seriously hampered my ability to surf. Due to this impairment and wanting to stay close to the ocean, I’ve been turning more and more towards my photography as a way to remain connected. Having sat out most of the last 2 seasons, I am hoping now to increase the number of days spent in the water this year (whether with camera or surfboard), following an intense regimen of physical therapy this past Summer. So far, so good… If you see me in the water or on the beach, please be sure to say hello! ![]() |
